Report: Stade Rennais Express Interest in Signing Kouassi

Tanguy Kouassi could have had it all at Paris Saint-Germain. He was wanted by leadership, offered a professional contract, playing time, UEFA Champions League football, and teammates such as Kylian Mbappé and Neymar Jr. As you know, though, he turned that all down and will leave the French capital at the end of the month.

So, what could possibly make the 18-year-old Kouassi turn down an offer from PSG? You could understand if maybe FC Barcelona or Liverpool FC convinced him to leave Paris, but according to a recent report, the Frenchman’s potential suitor is a bit less glamorous.

Ouest-France reports that Stade Rennais are in the very early stages of courting Kouassi and it’s said that the club is waiting to see if he would be interested in signing a professional contract with them.

Rennes finished third in the shorted 2019-20 Ligue 1 season and can offer Champions League football to Kouassi. If they can hold onto Eduardo Camavinga, they may have a nice little team. They’re still not on PSG’s level and will likely see an early Champions League exit but that apparently doesn’t matter to the young center-back.

This season, Kouassi featured in 13 games for PSG and scored three goals. He’s the jewel of the PSG academy and his unwillingness to stay at the club is disappointing.
