Picking the “best” footballer is such an arbitrary thing to do. How do you even determine that? There are so many factors to consider, including the team they’re on, position, stats, and trophies won.
However, former FC Barcelona president Sandro Rosell decided to go down that path recently in an interview with COPE and Radio Marca (via Goal).
“If I were the president of Barca, I would try to sign Neymar,” Rosell said. “He is the second-best player in the world after [Lionel] Messi and fits perfectly into the philosophy of the club.”
“But with experience, I would sign him with two contracts, one sports and the other behavioral.”
That’s all fine and well but the fact is, Barcelona cannot afford PSG’s €150 million asking price for Neymar nor are the Ligue 1 champions interested in any of the players Barcelona would include in a swap deal.
In terms of who is better, Messi or Neymar, most will pick the Argentine considering his accomplishments and incredible stats. If Neymar wants to put up a serious challenge to the “GOAT,” he’ll need to win a UEFA Champions League with PSG.
Lifting the most prestigious trophy in club football at Paris Saint-Germain would elevate Neymar’s career and validate his decision to leave Barcelona in 2017.
