Signing Icardi Could Limit PSG’s Transfer Activity

Mauro Icardi’s loan from Inter Milan will end on June 30, unless Paris Saint-Germain ponies up the €70 million (option to buy price) it will cost to make his stay in the French capital permanent.

Recent reports indicate that Icardi is open to staying at PSG but the club will be looking for a discount from Inter due to the financial losses caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Lowering the €70 million price tag for Icardi may involve PSG sending a player like Julian Draxler or Leandro Paredes to Inter but the Serie A side may prefer to have the cash upfront.

However, considering the fact that Icardi’s wages would blow up their financial stability, Inter may be willing to negotiate with PSG to avoid having to find a new club to ship the Argentine off to.

Assuming no deal can be made and PSG are forced to pay the full price for Icardi, Le Parisien believes that it would significantly limit their ability to sign quality players in other positions that desperately need to be addressed, like right-back, with the pending departure of Thomas Meunier.

The French publication also reports that Icardi remains a priority for Leonardo, PSG’s sporting director, which would then lead you to believe that Edinson Cavani will be leaving once his contract expires at the end of the season.
