Report: PSG Goalkeeper Could Accept Challenge at Arsenal

There’s a lot of unknowns when it comes to Paris Saint-Germain’s offseason plans but we do know that Alphonse Areola is more than likely going to be moving on after his season-long loan at Real Madrid expires.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper came up through the PSG academy but has spent several years away from the French capital as he never quite convinced management that he was capable of being the first-choice keeper for a club with visions of winning the UEFA Champions League.

According to Mundo Deportivo, one club that could potentially be interested in Areola is Arsenal FC. The Frenchman has three years left on his current contract and he could potentially leave for North London on another loan or be sold outright.

Arsenal fits the profile of a club that Areola would likely be interested in signing for but there’s one problem: Bernd Leno. The German goalkeeper is one of the best in the Premier League and Areola certainly wouldn’t replace him from the outset. He would have to earn his minutes or risk sitting on the bench, which isn’t all that different from what he would be doing at PSG.

I still maintain that West Ham United should make a move for Areola or perhaps new-money Newcastle United FC would be interested. Either of those teams would be better for Areola’s future than Arsenal.
