Arsenal Could Miss Out on Ligue 1 Defender as PSG Express Interest

Paris Saint-Germain’s backline next season could be unrecognizable compared to the 2019-20 campaign. Thomas Meunier, Layvin Kurzawa, and Thiago Silva are all at the end of their contracts and as of today, no one has signed an extension.

In the case of PSG’s captain, Silva’s impending departure would leave a massive hole at center-back. The 35-year-old has been offered an extension according to some reports but the two sides have yet to come to an agreement.

When it comes to transfers, you can’t leave anything to the last minute, which is why Leonardo is busy making contingency plans should Silva move on from the French capital.

According to Le10Sport, Lille OSC’s Gabriel Magalhães is a player that interests PSG’s sporting director as a possible successor to Silva. The publication goes as far as to say, “the interest of PSG is very real.”

The move would make a lot of sense. Gabriel had a breakout season in Ligue 1 and bringing him over from Lille to the Parc des Princes where he would be surrounded with higher quality players would be a natural transition. He would also fit in with the Brazilian contingency already at the club.

Signing Gabriel won’t be easy. Along with PSG, Arsenal are said to be very interested in paring him with William Saliba who was most recently on loan at AS Saint-Étienne.

If the decision comes down to PSG and UEFA Champions League football or a rebuild project at Arsenal, I’m confident Gabriel will make the right decision.
