Neymar Earns More Than €2M Per Month Than PSG Manager

Football is one of the few professions where oftentimes, the person in charge earns less money than those they’re responsible for managing.

At Paris Saint-Germain, this gulf in salary is perhaps more evident than at other clubs given the financial resources of the club and the superstars within the squad.

L’Equipe recently provided the gross monthly salaries for Ligue 1 coaches and it shouldn’t be a surprise that PSG manager Thomas Tuchel tops the list at €625,000 after his contract extension in March of 2019. Coming in second was André Villas-Boas at Olympique de Marseille with a salary of €400,000.

That’s a considerable salary for most but when compared to some of PSG’s top-earning players, it pales in comparison.

Neymar Jr. tops the list with an estimated gross monthly salary of €3,060,000, which is approximately €2.44 million more than his manager. PSG’s other superstar, Kylian Mbappé, is the second top-earner at PSG with €1,910,000, or €1.29 million more than Tuchel.

When you go down the list of PSG salaries, you quickly realize most of the starting lineup earns more than him per month. That includes Thiago Silva (€1.5 million), Edinson Cavani (€1.345 million), Marquinhos (€1.2 million), Marco Verratti (€1.2 million), Angel Di Maria (€1.1 million), Keylor Navas (€1 million), Mauro Icardi (€800,000), Leandro Paredes (€750,000), Presnel Kimpembe (€670,000), and Ander Herrera (€650,000).

A few players who earn less than Tuchel include Julian Draxler(€600,000), Idrissa Gueye (€500,000), Pablo Sarabia (€450,000), Abdou Diallo (€450,000), and Thilo Kehrer (€410,000).

If Tuchel wants to continue earning his salary, though, advancing past Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League on March 11 is vital. Crashing out of the Round of 16 for the second consecutive year would all but ensure his dismissal.
