One of the more iconic photos of the Qatar Sports Investment era is seeing the images from their announcement of Marquinhos from AS Roma. The 19-year-old Brazilian with braces displaying his Paris Saint-Germain kit would begin a movement, one that would see players wanting to spend the majority of their career in Paris.
In a recent interview with Agence France-Presse (via DailyMail) the now 25-year-old is reflecting on his time with PSG.
Marquinhos has spent his adolescent life in Paris, nearly seven years to be exact. The French capital has seen the Brazilian grow up, so it’s not wild for him to say that it’s the place where he’d like to spend the rest of his career.
Also, the club is consistently competitive. PSG is always looking to bring in world-class talent as the club aims for a UEFA Champions League trophy. Being a part of a team that’s competing for trophies and playing alongside top talent makes it an easy decision for Marquinhos to commit long-term to the club.

In the same interview, Marquinhos goes on to say that he wants to become the best defender in the world. Although he’s spending some time in the midfield under Thomas Tuchel, it’s clear where he sees himself long-term. Marquinhos is playing in the midfield out of respect for his coach and the needs of the club. Despite playing out of position and succeeding, he will want to go back to being a center-back.
Furthermore, with 35-year-old Thiago Silva eventually retiring sooner rather than later, Marquinhos is next in line to not only command the backline but captain the entire squad. Then there’s the replacement of Silva with the national team, where Marquinhos could also become the next captain.
Over the past seven years, Marquinhos has called Paris home; the Brazilian has become a fan favorite if the giant tifo from earlier this season serves as any indication. If he has his way, Marquinhos will fall in line with some of the other great Brazilians to wear the PSG colors.
