Thiago Silva is a Tackling Machine and He Can’t Be Stopped

Paris Saint-Germain has allowed only one shot on goal through three UEFA Champions League matches this season and zero goals. One big reason for their success on defense is Thiago Silva.

The Brazilian has hardly looked his age (35) in what might be his last season in the French capital. If O’Monstro is to move on next summer, he’s certainly giving PSG fans something to remember him by with incredible performances on the defensive side of the pitch.

Against Club Brugge in Belgium last Tuesday, PSG’s captain intercepted every dangerous ball the hosts fired his way but it was his tackling that jumped off my television screen and even Le Parisien noticed, rating him a game-high 8 in their player ratings.

Watch in the clip above as Silva ruthlessly cuts through two attackers like a hot knife through butter in quick succession. Like a machine only focused on a programmed task, Silva does not give up until he has completed his mission and knocked the ball out of bounds.

The tackles are hard and clean and Silva eventually knocks the ball out of play. This is exactly the kind of effort you want to see from your captain in big Champions League matches because it’s infectious. Other players see this and then they want to try harder and match his intensity.

We’re seeing a different PSG this season and Silva is a big reason why. The goal now is to maintain this high level of play into the knockout stage of the Champions League in the second half of the season.
