It’s been nearly a week and we’re still trying to process what happened last Wednesday at the Parc des Princes. With a birth in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League so close they could nearly touch it, Paris Saint-Germain couldn’t get out of their own way. Manchester United were second best in every statistical category except where it matters, the scoreboard. All that’s left for us supporters is to try and explain what happened and what’s next for this great club that continues to implode on the European stage.
On this episode of PSG Talking, Guillaume hosts and he is joined by fellow contributors Mel Brennan and James Teague to dig deep and figure out what went wrong on that rainy night in Paris. Was it the weather? Was it the black shirts? Or, what is something much more troubling?
After a quick recap of something we all want to forget as quickly as possible, our PSG experts begin to sift through the rubble and pick out the key moments that doomed the capital club. Unfortunately, those moments where players lacked concentration and committed match-changing errors is something supporters have seen entirely too often. It’s becoming PSG’s calling card and the disease is even infecting newcomers like Gianluigi Buffon. Leaders continue to capitulate when the lights are the brightest and it’s difficult to explain why.
We all must look forward now and whether it’s a culture change or player transfers—or both—something has to change. The same mistakes have happened far too often to call them a fluke. Thomas Tuchel has to figure out who is deeply affected by these losses and who can move past them. The next few months and the summer transfer window will no doubt be one of the most important periods in the history of the club.
