PSG Small Talk Podcast: Paris Win Over Strasbourg, Madrid Recap, and ‘Lazy’ Media

Paris Saint-Germain needed a strong showing following their disappointing 3-1 loss to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League last Wednesday and against RC Strasbourg Alsace, they got just that.

It wasn’t all easy for PSG though. Strasbourg silenced the Parc des Princes in the 6th minute when Jean Eudes Aholou smashed a shot from the center of the box past Alphonse Areola. To their credit, Unai Emery’s squad responded quickly and efficiently. Julian Draxler bagged his third goal of the season four minutes later and Neymar Jr. and Angel Di Maria each added a goal before halftime to help Les Parisiens go into halftime with a comfortable 3-1 lead.

Despite Stéphane Bahoken goal in the 67th minute, there would be no second-half collapse for PSG on this day. Edinson Cavani, who has relatively quiet since becoming PSG’s all-time leading scorer, recorded a brace to confirm the win and break another one of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s records: most goals at the Parc by any PSG player (86). The 5-2 win is exactly what the capital club needed coming off yet another frustrating loss in the Champions League but it does very little to erase the missed chances that occurred just three days ago.

On the latest episode of PSG Small Talk, host Marc Damon welcomes fellow contributor Jon Olangi and the two go into detail about the win over Strasbourg, the loss to Madrid and then wrap up with a very hot topic at the moment. It’s no longer a secret that the English-speaking football media has an ax to grind against Paris Saint-Germain and Neymar in particular. Damon and Olangi examine the lack of journalistic integrity when it comes to coverage of PSG and potential reasons as to why the commentary is so one-sided.

  1. That moment of magic in the 83rd minute when Neymar dribbled past a few Strasbourg players and made a through ball to Di Maria which left him one on one with the goalkeeper was pure class!
