It was men against boys at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night as Paris Saint-Germain defeated Celtic FC 7-1 in their penultimate match of the UEFA Champions League group stage. The impressive scoreline helped PSG break the record for most goals scored by one team in the group stage of the competition and the one goal scored against them was the first in 450 minutes of play.
To Celtic’s credit, they did come out and punch PSG in the mouth. Former PSG youth product Moussa Dembélé scored in the first minute of the match and the hosts struggled for the next five minutes to regain control of the game. That’s when Neymar Jr. took over. As PSG Small Talk host Marc Damon likes to say, “great players aren’t always great, they’re just great when they have to be.” In the latest episode of the podcast, Damon discusses how the Brazilian was practically perfect in every aspect of the game and how he led PSG to a thrashing rarely seen in the Champions League.
As dominant as PSG were, there’s still work left to be done as Unai Emery’s men prepare to travel to the Allianz Arena to face Bayern Munich on December 5. Against the German champions, Les Parisiens will try to defend a four-goal lead and it will be a chance for them to exercise some demons that may be lingering from last year’s failure against FC Barcelona.
Before all of that though, there’s the match against AS Monaco this Sunday at the Stade Louis II. A win will see the capital club move nine points clear of their rivals and it will be interesting to see how the Principality outfit approach this match as they’ve somewhat struggled as of late.
