Champions League: Marquinhos Reveals Key Factor Behind Dortmund’s Elimination of PSG

Paris Saint-Germain fell 1-0 (2-0 on aggregate) to Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday at the Parc des Princes as the capital club crashed in the UEFA Champions League semifinals.

The Parisians took 30 shots in total in the match, but only five were on target, and another four hit the woodwork. The ball simply didn’t want to go in for the Ligue 1 side on Tuesday night, while Dortmund only needed one goal from Mats Hummels in the 50th minute to add a security goal.

After the Hummels goal, Luis Enrique and his team couldn’t respond, and now Dortmund are off to the Champions League final at Wembley Stadium. Following the elimination, PSG captain Marquinhos spoke to Canal Plus to reflect on what went wrong.

“Efficiency, I believe,” Marquinhos told the French media outlet (h/t Paris Fans). “It’s the word that was lacking. They scored two goals from corners and one from a deep pass; we should have defended better, it’s all about those small details. We created many more chances than them, yet we weren’t efficient. They were, and they scored two goals.”

The loss also marks the end of an era. This is likely the last Champions League match that Kylian Mbappé will play for PSG, as the Frenchman will reportedly be joining Real Madrid this summer.
