Paris Saint-Germain finally made it and won the Champions League for the very first time. An incredible work of the team, coaches, club, and fans resulted in the greatest moment of the club’s history. However, with the FIFA Club World Cup, there is another opportunity for the club to shine. Will PSG really win the fifth title this season?
The success story of the club already started in the summer of 2023. Basically, it was a decision by the people in charge that should have a huge impact. They decided to change the club’s strategy and shifted it to integrate more young players and players from France, too. It was just the start of a plan to give the club a fresh and promising look as well as an identity at the same time.
To achieve this goal, they decided to hire one of the world’s best coaches: Luis Enrique. Of course, not everything was great right from the beginning, and some things took some days until they were working out, but those decisions already seemed to pay off. Three titles and some outstanding performances speak a clear language, and only the loss in the Champions League semi-finals against Dortmund were mood-dampening drugs.
New strategy and new players are bringing success
The development of the team was already progressing quite well, and with the new season, the team was even performing better and better. Some new signings were not only becoming important squad members, they even managed to get their spot in the starting eleven. Especially João Neves, Désiré Doué, and Willian Pacho became crucial players for Enrique’s system more or less immediately. In the winter break, Kvaratskhelia joined the club from Napoli and brought some more energy, speed, and a wonderful technical ability to Paris, too.
Based on this, it’s not a surprise that PSG managed to win the league again with only two defeats during the whole season. Also, the win of the Trophee des Champions as well as the Coupe de France are more like safe titles for the club in every season. So, the focus for the club has been shifting more and more to finally win the Champions League during the season, and after some thrilling and outstanding performances, the team managed to reach the final in Munich.
31.05.2025: A day to make club history
The 31st of May 2025 will be the day of the Champions League final. A day that could be remembered for a long time and become one of the most important days in PSG’s club history. After a couple of extremely sad and unfortunate losses in quarter finals and semifinals, as well as the final defeat against Bayern Munich in 2020, a whole city wanted to celebrate this time and to win against Inter by all available means.
From the first second on, everyone could literally feel this energy. The team was not just able to play one of their best matches of the whole season in the very best moment, they absolutely destroyed Inter and their hopes for at least one title this season. It became one of the clearest finals in the Champions League history and, therefore, a huge demonstration of power. No wonder that there were some great victory celebrations afterwards. Well deserved!
PSG’s chances at the Club World Cup
Although this Champions League title is the clear highlight of the season, there is actually another title chance with the Club World Cup this summer. Paris could win the sixth title of this season, which would be an absolute statement. At the same time ,they could make themselves the best team in the world, another demonstration of power.
In a couple of days, the tournament will start. First, PSG has to pass the group stage with opponents like Atlético Madrid, Botafogo from Brazil as well as the Seattle Sounders from the US. Not an easy group, especially with Atlético, but still manageable for this unit. Afterwards, nearly everything will be possible in just one match per round.
Apart from PSG it all comes down to the same favorites as in the Champions League. Especially Bayern Munich, Chelsea FC, Manchester City, and Real Madrid will be tough opponents in the title race, and Borussia Dortmund should also not be forgotten after an incredible Bundesliga run-in. But with a Champions League title in the bag, PSG is going to be the top favorite to win their next title and to gild the season completely.
