Frenkie de Jong’s future at Barcelona is up in the air as he heads into the final year of his contract after this season. If he doesn’t sign an extension this summer, the 27-year-old could be on the move and one potential destination for the Dutchman is the Premier League.

Last October, SPORT reported that several top clubs—including Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain—are keeping a close eye on his situation.

De Jong has been vocal about his desire to stay at Barcelona, but PSG’s track record of signing players from the club makes them a real contender. Meanwhile, Barcelona appear willing to let him go, with Mundo Deportivo reporting that the club isn’t prioritizing a new deal due to financial constraints.

More recently, CaughtOffside noted that Liverpool have internally discussed their summer transfer targets, with De Jong among the names considered. However, his wages could be a sticking point.

Barcelona are open to selling him for around €35 million, but his high salary at the Nou Camp has been a hurdle for Liverpool and other clubs in the past.

Is another Premier League club ready to land Frenkie de Jong?

Fichajes reports that Arsenal are looking to strengthen their midfield with a major signing and have set their sights on De Jong.

The Gunners are prepared to spend €75 million to land the Dutch midfielder in the next transfer window—a sum that could entice FC Barcelona, who are looking to stabilize their finances and invest in new signings.

De Jong’s future has been a frequent topic of discussion at Barça in recent years. His contract situation has created uncertainty, and while his departure once seemed likely, the arrival of Hansi Flick has changed the outlook.

The German coach has made De Jong a key part of his system, strengthening the chances of him staying at the club.

  1. De Jong to come to Arsenal and do what? Why are we not going for Dani Olmo who is a better player by a distance?…. especially, regarding his registration problems at Barca?
Arsenal biggest problem under Arteta is poor recruitment. That is why Liverpool, who there average net spending in the last five years is not even half of our own, is about to win the league while we are still struggling.
Edu made good purchases when he entered new. Players like Martinelli, Saliba, Tierney and Partey. Arteta used them to climb up and started making his own demands of type of players. But these players he compelled the club to buy for him are not good enough. Edu angrily left Arsenal because he said that Arteta is undermining his job as Sporting Director by directly meeting Arsenal executives.
This Arteta even rejected Partey at the beginning. The technical board forced him on him. He later discovered that he don’t win big games without Partey being in the defensive midfield, yet he cannot change his mentality.
I’m afraid the days of good purchases are over with Arteta still Arsenal manager.
