The January transfer window is underway, and there are several rumors linking top players with a move to Paris Saint-Germain. One in particular, however, has supporters dreaming just a little bit bigger.
Liverpool FC are currently leading the Premier League, and a big reason for that is the play of their star, Mohamed Salah. However, with his contract winding down, the Egypt international has stated that he will be looking for a new adventure once the season ends. That has sparked many football fans to use free AI image generators to put Salah in the kit of their favorite team.
Any time a big star is open to a move away from their current team, PSG will be linked with them, given the financial advantage they have over other teams. It’s how Lionel Messi ended up there after his reluctant departure from FC Barcelona. And who can forget PSG breaking the transfer record in 2017 to sign Neymar Jr. from the Catalan club?
With Salah, there won’t be a transfer fee to pay as the Liverpool man will be out of contract and free to move to any club he wants. He’ll certainly expect to be paid as one of the best players in the world, and he’s earned that this season. So, will PSG make a move for the 32-year-old?
On the pitch, Salah’s arrival would immediately force PSG to make a decision. Ousmane Dembélé is PSG’s regular starter on the right wing and will expect to continue as the starter. However, that’s Salah’s preferred position. Having both players on the team would almost immediately cause some controversy unless Luis Enrique has a creative way to use both players.
Off the pitch, Salah makes a lot of sense for PSG and Ligue 1. With Neymar, Messi, and Kylian Mbappé all playing for other teams now, PSG lacks a global superstar who can generate interest from major advertisers and increase jersey sales. That lack of a star also makes it difficult for Ligue 1 to negotiate broadcast deals around the world. With no star to promote, it’s difficult to sell the league to anyone who isn’t a diehard fan of a French team already.
Salah would solve all of those problems off the pitch and could elevate PSG’s play on the pitch. PSG will likely have to battle with teams from the Saudi Pro League for his signature, but Salah may prefer staying in Europe and competing in the UEFA Champions League, which would benefit Les Parisiens.
