In September, CaughtOffside reported that Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Paris Saint-Germain are competing for Viktor Gyökeres of Sporting Lisbon. New information has emerged that could benefit these clubs in the transfer race.
According to the report, Tottenham are currently in the lead for Gyökeres, while Chelsea consider him a backup option as they shift their focus to a potential bid for Victor Osimhen in January or the summer.
PSG are also keeping an eye on Gyökeres, leveraging their strong connections with Sporting. However, CaughtOffside notes that any potential transfer hinges on whether the club opts to sell Gonçalo Ramos or Randal Kolo Muani at the end of the season, which remains uncertain.
Florian Plettenberg from Sky Sports Germany recently added that Gyökeres has a release clause set at €100 million. However, there’s an understanding that he could leave Sporting CP next summer for a fee between €60 million and €70 million.
While a transfer this winter appears unlikely, a move next summer seems very possible. Last week, a report noted that Arsenal are eager to acquire a top-quality striker in the upcoming transfer windows but are being cautious about overspending in January.
They may choose to wait until the end of the season when they would be in a better position to invest the £84 million needed to bring Gyökeres from Portugal.
Manchester United dealt transfer blow for Viktor Gyökeres
With Manchester United hiring former Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim, many assumed that the Portuguese boss would be keen on having the Swedish player follow him to Old Trafford. However, that’s not the case.
Record reports that Gyökeres has turned down the chance to join Manchester United, despite the club hoping his desire to reunite with former coach Ruben Amorim would sway him. With Gyökeres opting not to make the move, it seems United will need to explore other options for a prolific center-forward.
This season, Gyökeres has scored 20 goals while recording four assists in 16 appearances across all competitions.
