This summer, Paris Saint-Germain explored several No. 9 targets to boost their goal-scoring options for the 2024-25 season. Among those they considered was Aston Villa’s talented Jhon Durán.

Earlier this month, Eduardo Burgos of Diario AS reported that Bayern Munich and PSG made offers for Durán last summer. However, Aston Villa blocked the move, as manager Unai Emery sees him as a potential future superstar.

Moreover, these clubs aren’t alone in the race. According to Fichajes, Arsenal and Barcelona are still monitoring Durán as the 2025 transfer windows approach.

The report mentions that Barcelona had already made a move for him before his recent contract renewal and remain a serious contender for his signature.

Recognizing that the young goal scorer is attracting attention from other clubs, the Premier League side extended Durán’s contract until 2030. However, that hasn’t stopped other teams from showing interest, but there should be another red flag before pursuing the youngster.

Whether the Parisians pursue the Colombian next year remains to be seen. However, the capital club have received a warning to note a key weakness in the player: his behavior.

“Here we are very interested in the football player and the human being interests us, when the conflictive ones appear,” Alberto Suarez, who coached the forward at his first club Envigado, told Colombian outlet Noticias Caracol.

“We have to support Jhon; as a person, we do not dedicate much time to him in training, and if we normalize this [his tantrum after being substituted], they will lose him, he will be lost, in Europe, they will not tolerate him.

“There are very close examples, like Balotelli, who, due to his behavior, distanced himself from the elite of football.

“[Durán] has the talent; he is ahead in football, but not as a human being. Beyond everything, he is a sensitive human being, a nice person, but he is learning and more so now that he feels the media power multiplied by 1,000.

“I repeat, Jhon is not a bad person, he is a young man who is rebellious. He is 20 years old and has lived for football as if he were already 30. All this is complex for a Colombian.”
