Paris Saint-Germain might find themselves up against Lionel Messi again after the Argentine’s departure from the club last year. It’s going to be a bit awkward, as many thought last season would be the final chapter in the story of these two sides meeting on the pitch.

On Wednesday, Inter Miami defeated the Columbus Crew to win the MLS Supporters’ Shield for the first time. The trophy is given to the club with the most points in a season, but there’s more to this story than this honor.

Journalist Ben Jacobs reported on Thursday for Give Me Sport that Inter Miami are likely to be confirmed as the host representative for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium could host the opening game featuring them.

The MLS Cup will conclude on December 7, which creates some uncertainty, especially since the draw could happen even before that date. Jacobs notes that some believe it’s fairer to select the top league finisher instead of the MLS Cup champion.

Finally, Jacobs’s reporting concludes by saying that Inter Miami’s participation is expected to be confirmed soon, possibly within this month. It will be interesting to see if PSG and Messi cross paths in this competition, as it will likely open up the drama over these two seasons and their departure.
