João Neves was a hot commodity this past summer transfer window as Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain were the clubs linked to the former SL Benfica standout.

The Portuguese standout made a name for himself last season, garnering the attention of several clubs. Eventually, the Parisians won the race, spending €60 million plus €10m in add-ons for the player.

Neves’ tenure is off to a good start, with five assists in Ligue 1 for the French giants. Before the match against Arsenal on Tuesday night at Emirates Stadium, Canal+ played an interview with the 20-year-old, who emphasized that he might make the right decision to join PSG.

“I enjoy playing in midfield, no matter the position,” Neves said (h/t Le10Sport). “One of the things that attracted me to Paris was the flexibility to switch roles during the game. Sticking to just one spot can limit my development. I believe this versatility is good for both my growth and evolution.

“My transition was really smooth, thanks in part to the Portuguese players already here. Vitinha’s a great guy, and the same goes for Nuno Mendes, Gonçalo Ramos, and even Danilo Pereira, who’s no longer with us. I felt at home right away, and the whole team helped me quickly fit into the group.”

If Neves continues to play like he has to start this season, PSG will have found a key player in their midfield for the foreseeable future. Moreover, they offloaded a player like Manuel Ugarte and secured most of their initial investment in a sale to Manchester United.
