Former Napoli standout Victor Osimhen was linked to a move to Chelsea or Paris Saint-Germain this summer. However, the Nigerian didn’t leave the Serie A side for either of those clubs, and the Parisians had no intention of paying any ridiculous fee.

The reigning Ligue 1 champions were linked to the striker until the final week of the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Chelsea attempted a move for the striker in the final hours, but no move happened.

Eventually, Osimhen left on loan to Galatasaray S.K. with no buy option, and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the situation, noting new information that will impact the player next year.

In Romano’s Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside, he stated that Osimhen will return to Napoli next summer, and the club has secured an option to extend his contract until 2027. This means Napoli can extend the deal, but with a new release clause.

Previously, Osimhen’s release clause was set at €130 million, which made it difficult for clubs to negotiate a transfer this summer. Moreover, Romano notes that PSG showed interest in Osimhen in July, but they weren’t willing to meet the €130 million price.

If Napoli exercises the contract extension starting in 2025, the release clause will drop to €75 million, signaling to interested clubs that they could potentially sign him for a lower fee. It will be interesting to see whether PSG or Chelsea attempt to land the player at a cheaper cost.
