Ex-Napoli standout Victor Osimhen was linked with moves to Chelsea or Paris Saint-Germain this summer. However, he didn’t make the switch to either club, and PSG wasn’t willing to pay a hefty fee for him.
The reigning Ligue 1 champions had their sights set on Osimhen until the final week of the transfer window. Chelsea also made a late push for him, but ultimately, no deal was reached.
Ultimately, Osimhen left on loan to Galatasaray S.K. with no buy option. PSG sporting advisor Luis Campos admitted that they were keen on the Nigerian ace but, in the end, decided to go with what they had to fill the No. 9 position.
“Osimhen was obviously considered as one of the options,” Campos told SportItalia (h/t Le10Sport). “Our conclusion was that we were very satisfied with Gonçalo Ramos, Kolo Muani, and Marcos Asensio… Did we make an offer? No. We discussed Osimhen like other forwards.”
Nonetheless, if the Parisians want to revisit this file in the future, the player could be available at a more economical price. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Osimhen will return to Napoli next summer, and the club has secured an option to extend his contract until 2027.
If Napoli exercises the contract extension starting in 2025, the release clause will drop to €75 million, signaling to interested clubs that they could potentially sign him for a lower fee.
