Real Madrid are reportedly keen on a right-back to replace Dani Carvajal long-term. However, the Spanish side might revisit their interest in Achraf Hakimi.

In June, Mario Cortegana from The Athletic reported that Real Madrid was eyeing Hakimi as a potential successor to Carvajal. The Spanish club views the Moroccan as a strong candidate for their right-back role.

Cortegana also pointed out that Hakimi is an attractive option for Madrid because he came through their academy, has a close relationship with Kylian Mbappé, and is under contract until 2026. This means he would have just one year left on his deal after this season.

Despite the interest from Hakimi’s boyhood club, Le Parisien reported this month that the right-back has reassured PSG’s leadership about his commitment to the club. He’s eager to take on more responsibilities and is likely to be named one of the vice-captains. His strong connection to PSG is clear, and the staff view him as one of their key players.

Nonetheless, as the months went on, Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold became the Spanish side’s top target, considering his contract expires next summer, per La Liga insider Matteo Moretto.

However, Real Madrid could have to revisit other files as Football Insider reported on Thursday, citing sources, that Alexander-Arnold is more than happy to stay at Liverpool for the foreseeable future.

If that’s the case then Los Blancos will have to scratch him off their list and look at other names. Still, it’s early, and it’s a long way between now and June 2025, so anything can happen, as Real Madrid have a way of convincing players to run out of their contracts.
