What Manchester United’s Erik ten Hag Revealed About His Expectations for Ex-PSG Star

Manuel Ugarte left Paris Saint-Germain on the final day of the summer transfer window and will begin a new chapter at Old Trafford. Nonetheless, don’t expect manager Erik ten Hag to pressure on the player to hit the ground running.

The Red Devils are heading into the FIFA international break on a negative note after their 3-0 loss to Liverpool this weekend. Ugarte will make his debut once club football returns, but ten Hag is taking a slow approach with the player.

Ugarte last played at the 2024 Copa América and hasn’t played for PSG this season, so there will be rest as the player also didn’t have a preseason. With these variables, the Dutchman warned that it will take some time for the 23-year-old to adapt.

“So this is another one: we have to build him into the team,” ten Hag said (h/t The People’s Person). “It will take time, so it’s not like I’m Harry Potter. That is what you have to acknowledge.”

“And if you see Manuel Ugarte, he didn’t play so far in the season. Not one match minute. So he needs to build his fitness rate and then we have to build him in the team and I am sure he will contribute to our level and he will be an important player but that will take a couple of weeks, maybe even months.”

Multiple reports reveal that PSG will receive a fixed fee of €50 million plus €10 million in add-ons and a 10 percent sell-on clause as part of Ugarte’s transfer to Manchester United.
