During Kylian Mbappé’s time with Paris Saint-Germain, the Frenchman was linked to Real Madrid countless times. However, Liverpool was the other club that would occasionally be connected to the forward.

Mbappé speaks and understands English, so moving to the Reds wouldn’t have been an issue. Moreover, a new report reveals how close the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner was to joining the Premier League side rather than heading to Spain.

L’Equipe reports that In 2022, Kylian Mbappé was reportedly open to joining Liverpool. The former PSG player was disappointed with the direction of Paris Saint-Germain’s project and had positively responded to an offer from the English club.

Mbappé was absent from the first day of the 2022-23 Ligue 1 season, officially due to injury. Still, it was rumored that he had requested not to play to clarify his situation, which conflicted with the club’s management.

How much was Liverpool willing to pay?

Liverpool’s offer was a substantial €200 million, plus a short-term contract that would have allowed Mbappé to join Real Madrid afterward. However, PSG’s then sporting director, Antero Henrique, categorically rejected the offer.

Eventually, the 2022 FIFA World Cup runner-up extended his contract with PSG until 2025. Nonetheless, he didn’t exercise the option to remain one more year in the French capital. After last season, Mbappé left the Parisians as a free agent and signed with Real Madrid.
