Kylian Mbappé wanted his move to Real Madrid after leaving Paris Saint-Germain this summer as a free agent. However, one pundit remains confused over the decision, considering it didn’t make sense from a sporting perspective.
While Real Madrid have had this obsession with signing the 25-year-old and it was a sentimental arrival for the player, the left-wing position with the Spanish side was already occupied with Vinicius Jr. and even Rodrygo preferring the left side of the pitch.
As a result, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner has played as the No. 9, even though that isn’t his preferred position, as he made clear during the “#pivotgang” incident.
Mbappé can play the striker role in the short term, but in the long term, will this be an issue for the player? Former footballer Chris Waddle stated that something will have to give with multiple wingers preferring to play on the left side of the pitch.
“I’ve always thought it was a strange transfer because Mbappé wants to play on the left wing, and he will never play there at Real Madrid,” Waddle said (h/t Le10Sport).
“They already have two wingers who have performed very well in recent years, Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo. I think they would benefit even more from him by playing him on the left side.”
