Why Liverpool Followed PSG in Avoiding Overpayment for Manchester United’s Newcomer

Manchester United managed to sign former LOSC Lille defender Leny Yoro, outbidding clubs like Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid. PSG and Liverpool were reluctant to meet the high transfer fee, which allowed United to clinch the deal.

The Red Devils reportedly paid €62 million plus an additional €8 million for the teenager, although he picked up a foot injury during the club’s summer tour in the United States.

According to Loïc Tanzi of L’Equipe, PSG knew Yoro’s health concerns. The French outlet reported that the Ligue 1 side was aware of Yoro’s physical issues and decided not to match Manchester United’s offer. Liverpool also hesitated to meet the high fee, but their reasons differed from PSG’s.

Liverpool Echo reports that Liverpool decided against spending £52 million on Yoro last month because the club felt he would be their fifth-choice center-back this season.

PSG have finally added a new center-back to their squad this summer with the arrival of Ecuadorian defender Willian Pacho, who had also caught Liverpool’s eye. It will be interesting to see if the Reds will make any further moves to strengthen their defense.

  1. So what you’re saying is that P.S.G. knew that Yoro was going break his foot? Pull the other one.
