Kylian Mbappé began a new chapter on Wednesday, playing in his first match for Real Madrid in the 2-0 win over Atalanta to win the UEFA Super Cup. Despite being gone, manager Luis Enrique can’t escape questions over his former star player.
All of last season, Enrique had to deal with reporters asking about the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner’s future. Now that Mbappé has left, the assumption was that these questions about the player would stop, but that wasn’t the case.
Enrique spoke to reporters on Thursday ahead of PSG opening the 2024-25 Ligue 1 season against Le Havre on Friday. Still, with Mbappé playing on Wednesday, a reporter asked the manager whether he saw that Super Cup match where the Frenchman scored his first goal for Real Madrid.
“My god, how boring these Spaniards are.. My God, you’re still here, this is quite something… Pfff… until when are you gonna be here? But anyways, I don’t have anything to hide,” Enrique said during his press conference. “I always adored Kylian, he is an exceptional player, same goes for his brother. I wish Kylian the best and that Real Madrid loses against us (when we play them).”
Luis Enrique when a Spanish journalist asked him today if he saw Mbappé’s match for Real Madrid yesterday:
“(Shakes his head and laughs) My god, how boring these Spaniards are.. My God, you’re still here, this is quite something… Pfff… until when are you gonna be here? But… pic.twitter.com/8U9YDTVQD9

This will be PSG’s first season without a true global superstar since the 2016-17 season, which was the campaign after Zlatan Ibrahimović left and before the arrival of Neymar Jr. and Mbappé.
