PSG Newcomer Explains Decision to Join French Giants Despite Links with Bayern Munich and Tottenham

Stade Rennais’ Désiré Doué was announced as Paris Saint-Germain’s newest player on Saturday. The teenager revealed why the reigning Ligue 1 champions are the right fit for him as he continues developing.

This summer, Doué was linked to various clubs, including Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Tottenham Hotspur. A report this month even mentioned that Bayern Munich pulled ahead of PSG in the race for Doué, with their offer coming closer to what Rennes is asking for.

On Saturday, Doué spoke to the French giant’s official website and noted why he opted to join PSG despite the player reportedly having several suitors looking to land him.

“The project is very ambitious and it’s a club that wants to win titles and go far in every competition, which is what I like. I’m also someone with big goals, who is very ambitious. So, I was immediately drawn to it

“I see friends and teammates here, like Warren Zaïre-Emery and Bradley Barcola, who were lucky enough to start playing here, to progress and develop. We see them today and they have a great place at the club and in the national team.

“So, of course, it’s inspiring and makes me want to follow in their footsteps. Here, I see that age isn’t a factor. On the pitch, it’s talent that matters.”

PSG have another young talent from France on their hands to grow with a team whose average age is 23.7. Doué had an impressive 2023-24 season, playing in 43 games across all competitions and tallying four goals and six assists for Rennes.

Additionally, the teenager won a silver medal during the Olympics as the French national team lost in the final to Spain.
