Phoenix Suns Star, PSG to Partner and Grow Club’s International Presence, Report Says

Paris Saint-Germain will reportedly welcome a high-profile celebrity as a minority owner of the French club. After winning a gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics, one NBA player is ready to invest in the Ligue 1 side.

Over the last few years, several athletes and celebrities have invested in football in Europe by purchasing a minority stake or an entire club.

Former NFL player J.J. Watt has a minority stake in Burnley, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has a minority stake in Liverpool, and actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney purchased Wrexham AFC.

So, who is the celebrity PSG are welcoming to the club as a minority owner? According to Foot Mercato’s Santi Aouna and RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins, Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant is about to become a minority shareholder of PSG.

The reporting doesn’t reveal the percentage that Durant will own, but the 35-year-old will be a high-profile figure for the club. Moreover, Durant’s becoming a minority owner should help the reigning Ligue 1 champions gain a better footing in the United States.

One issue that Durant could help resolve is advising PSG and Ligue 1 to accelerate securing a television deal in the United States, as the league currently has no broadcast partner.

Additionally, PSG will be in the United States next season as part of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, so Durant will surely be there to watch his new investment and promote the club.

Update:

L’Equipe reported on a follow-up to this news and the French media outlet notes that Durant isn’t directly a minority stakeholder in PSG. However, he has facilitated a minority equity stake in the club through Arctos Partners.

The Parisians are looking to expand its international presence, particularly in the United States, and is even considering the possibility of launching a PSG basketball team.
