Manchester United Poised to Make New Offer for PSG-Linked Defender, Romano Reports

Matthijs de Ligt of Bayern Munich has been rumored to be a target for Paris Saint-Germain this summer, but it looks like the Dutch defender really has his sights set on joining Manchester United.

A recent report from Bild reveals that Manchester United has submitted their first bid for Matthijs de Ligt, but it falls short of Bayern Munich’s asking price. Bayern is open to selling de Ligt, who could reunite with Erik ten Hag at United, but they’re looking for €50 million (£42 million).

United’s offer stands at €30 million, plus an additional €5 million in add-ons, bringing the total to around £29.4 million. Although the clubs are quite a bit apart on the transfer fee, Bayern Munich is moving forward as if the player will be sold this summer.

While Bayern Munich and Manchester United have to reach an agreement on a transfer fee, the Premier League club intend to return with another offer for the player.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United is set to make another bid for Matthijs de Ligt in the next few days. Both Bayern Munich and de Ligt are aware that United plans to come back with an offer.

Nonetheless, Football Transfers’ Robin Bairner spoke about why PSG should avoid de Ligt in their pursuit of a center-back to bolster their defense.

“I think there’s a lack of exciting defenders on the market, I think,” Bairner said. “Manchester United obviously looking at Matthijs de Ligt but he doesn’t really strike me as the sort of player that Luis Enrique would like.”

  1. We must sign Ugarte before first game of season. Amrabat should be signed also. We just have to strengthen our midfield. All other teams found us out last season as there was a huge hole left in our midfield. The last 4 games when Amrabat was moved there was much better. We cannot let this happen again.
