Manchester United Poised to Finalize Deal for PSG-Linked Defender This Month, Report Reveals

Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt has been linked to Paris Saint-Germain this summer transfer window, but the Dutchman seems to have his heart set on joining Manchester United. Moreover, a move to Old Trafford could be occurring this month.

A recent report from Bild reveals that Manchester United have made its first bid for de Ligt, but it doesn’t quite meet Bayern Munich’s asking price. Bayern is open to selling de Ligt, which could lead to a reunion with Erik ten Hag at United, but they want €50 million (£42 million) for him.

Manchester United’s offer is reportedly €30 million, plus an additional €5 million in add-ons, bringing the total to about £29.4 million. While the fee is a sticking point, both sides seem to be making progress toward an agreement.

On Friday, Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reported that, if all goes to plan, Bayern Munich and Manchester United will complete a double transfer involving de Ligt and he’ll join the Red Devils in August.

Manchester United and ten Hag are pushing for the former Ajax standout with Bayern Munich willing to sell. However, no deals are done yet, but progress is being made.

This past 2023-24 season, de Ligt made 30 appearances for Bayern Munich, scoring two goals and registering one assist.
