Manchester United May Miss Out on Ugarte Alternative as AC Milan Moves Closer to Deal

Manchester United are reportedly looking for a player to bolster their midfield as they have been linked to Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte. However, one of their alternative targets could be slipping away from them.

Ugarte has been the top target for the Premier League side to improve their midfield for the 2024-25 season. Nonetheless, the English have not been able to reach an agreement with PSG due to the difference in transfer fee.

David Ornstein from The Athletic reports that Manchester United are exploring other midfield options after hitting a snag in their talks with PSG over Ugarte. The main issue is PSG’s €60 million asking price.

This month, Luca Bianchin from La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that an ambitious project has been proposed to midfielder Youssouf Fofana, who is also attracting interest from AC Milan. Fofana has experience playing as a defensive, central, and right midfielder at AS Monaco.

However, if the Red Devils have Fofana high on their midfield target list, they could be on the verge of missing out on the player. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that AC Milan are now just one step away from signing Fofana – a deal with Monaco is on the verge of being reached.

Fofana has just one year left on his contract, so AS Monaco likely sees this as their last chance to get a transfer fee before he becomes a free agent next summer.
