Man Utd Secure One of the ‘Very Best Ball-Winning’ Midfielders from PSG, Club Chief Reveals

Manuel Ugarte officially made the switch from Paris Saint-Germain to Manchester United on Friday. Following the announcement by both clubs, a senior figure at Manchester United shared his thoughts on the new signing.

Ugarte didn’t quite fit into manager Luis Enrique’s plans for the midfield, so he’s moving on after just one season. Last season, he played 37 matches across all competitions for the reigning Ligue 1 champions and recorded three assists.

The 23-year-old had a strong start to the campaign, and it seemed like the club had found their midfield enforcer. However, his playing time dwindled in the second half, with Ugarte becoming more of a rotational player than a regular starter.

Now that the move to Manchester United is official, sporting director Dan Ashworth spoke about the transfer and noted what type of player the Premier League side are receiving as they hope that this deal bolsters their midfield for the foreseeable future.

“Signing Manuel was another of our primary targets for this summer,” Ashworth said (h/t Manchester Evening News). “He is among the very best ball-winning midfield players in the world and has an excellent record at both club and international level. His qualities, experience and passion will be a great complement to our strong group of midfielders.

“Manuel is a player we’ve watched closely, and we are excited to see the positive impact he will make on the pitch and in the dressing room as we continue to strive for success.”
