Man Utd Knew of French Ace’s Metatarsal Issue While Beating Liverpool, PSG for Signature

Manchester United signed former LOSC Lille defender Leny Yoro after outbidding clubs like Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid. Despite others’ concerns about the player, the Red Devils reportedly opted to proceed with the transfer.

The Premier League side reportedly paid €62 million plus an extra €8 million for the teenager, though he suffered a foot injury during the club’s summer tour in the U.S.

According to Loïc Tanzi of L’Equipe, PSG knew about Yoro’s injury issues and chose not to match United’s offer. Manchester United’s management knew the risks, especially given the French player’s foot issues.

The Athletic (h/t Diario AS) reported that during the 18-year-old’s pre-signing medical, the club found that his metatarsal was particularly delicate and could cause problems.

Still, the new sporting team at Manchester United was eager to kick off a new chapter, which led them to overlook the potential injury that ultimately occurred.

On the other hand, Liverpool also hesitated to meet the high fee, but their reasons differed from PSG’s. The Liverpool Echo reports that the Reds decided against spending £52 million on Yoro last month because the club felt he would be their fifth-choice center-back this season.
