Leipzig ‘Very Happy’ After Beating Bayern Munich, Manchester United to Sign PSG’s Rising Star

Xavi Simons will be on loan with RB Leipzig for the 2024-25 season, as both he and Paris Saint-Germain have decided to hold off on making a permanent decision about his future for now. Additionally, RB Leipzig’s club chief mentioned that they made every effort to secure his arrival.

Last month, Benjamin Quarez from Le Parisien reported that Simons moving to Leipzig allows PSG to retain full control over his future for 2025 and gives them the opportunity to keep 100% of any transfer fee next summer.

If Simons had been sold this summer, PSV would have taken 60 percent of the fee. However, Simons never planned to return to PSG; his real ambition is to play in the Premier League, possibly in 2025, which is promising news for Manchester United, who were linked to the 21-year-old this summer.

At a press conference, Leipzig’s sporting director, Rouven Schröder, shed light on the behind-the-scenes that went on in winning the race for Simons.

“We did everything we could for weeks and months so that Xavi could continue to imagine being part of RB Leipzig,” Schröder said (h/t Le10Sport). “I have rarely seen a loan player integrate into a team and live the club like him.

“He was an important part of our team planning. We are proud of him and are very happy that he continues to wear our jersey. And you can also enjoy it!”

Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports that Bayern Munich is interested in signing Simons in 2025 and has been having recent discussions about it.
