João Neves Breaks Neymar Jr.’s Impressive Ligue 1 Record, Stat Reveals

João Neves has hit the ground running in two Ligue 1 matches with Paris Saint-Germain. Moreover, the 19-year-old surpassed Neymar Jr. in an impressive stat to begin his tenure in France’s top flight.

Neves came off the bench in the Parisians’ 4-0 victory last weekend, where the Portugal international recorded two assists. The teenager showed on Friday night at the Parc des Princes that his performance against Le Havre was no fluke.

The midfielder registered another pair of assists in PSG’s 6-0 win over Montpellier Hérault SC. Furthermore, the four assists Neves recorded in his first two matches have allowed him to surpass Neymar in an impressive stat.

OptaJean spotlighted that since they have been tracking Ligue 1, the first season being the 2006-07 campaign, Neves has set a record for the most assists (four) in his first two Ligue 1 matches, surpassing Neymar’s previous record of three.

Neves will look to continue his impressive start when PSG travel to Stade Pierre-Mauroy for a showdown with LOSC Lille on September 1.
