Lutsharel Geertruida from Feyenoord has caught the attention of several top European clubs as a potential summer signing. One report this summer suggested that the 24-year-old one would join Paris Saint-Germain, but since late June, the file has gone cold.

In June, Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reported that Geertruida is more likely to join PSG than clubs in the Premier League or Bundesliga. The information also revealed that PSG had serious discussions with Geertruida’s representatives, and his price tag is around €25 million.

Nonetheless, July passed and no move materialized. Considering Geertruida plays right-back, which Achraf Hakimi occupies, perhaps he didn’t want to be a backup player.

Moreover, it seems Hakimi will be extending his contract and isn’t looking to return to Real Madrid, so this could explain why this rumor fell by the wayside.

As the summer transfer window enters its final weeks, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Aston Villa is targeting Geertruida to bolster its backline for the upcoming season.

Last season, Geertruida scored eight goals and recorded five assists in the Eredivisie. Villa could come in and make a swoop to land the player while PSG will have to go back to the drawing board to see if Nordi Mukiele remains Hakimi’s backup or if there’s another plan for this situation.
