The Kylian Mbappé era at Real Madrid is officially underway following his presentation on Tuesday at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. As a result, in this 2024-25 season, Paris Saint-Germain will have to learn how to replace their superstar.

Manager Luis Enrique and sporting advisor Luis Campos will likely go with a committee to replace the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner. However, if the decision to go with a collective rather than one superstar doesn’t work, one pundit believes that PSG will have to break the bank for a rising standout.

Free Ligue 1’s Rio Mavuba spoke about Mbappé’s departure, and noted that PSG have to ponder a way to secure FC Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal, who is coming off an impressive UEFA Euro 2024 and winning the entire tournament with Spain.

“PSG has gotten weaker,” Mavuba said (h/t Le10Sport). “That’s just the reality, we’re not making this up. Losing Mbappé, a guy who scores 40 goals a year, is a big deal. If they can’t find a top player to replace him, it’s going to be tough. I think PSG needs to make some moves. There’s a young Spanish player [Lamine Yamal] who looks really promising, but he’ll probably be very expensive.”

Yamal is under contract with Barcelona until 2026, but the Spanish side intend to sign the teenager to an eight-year contract once he turns 18 next year. As a result, it’s unlikely PSG can land this player, barring any unforeseen situation.
