Paris Saint-Germain might be getting closer to signing SL Benfica midfielder João Neves. If they manage to finalize a deal with the Portuguese club, they will have beaten Manchester United to secure the teenager this summer.

A report from Record indicates that Neves prefers a move to PSG over Manchester United. According to the same Portuguese outlet, Neves’ transfer to the capital club are expected to be finalized by next week. The Parisians have made a €70 million offer, but Benfica is holding out for a bit more.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano provided more behind-the-scenes information and believes that the reigning Ligue 1 champions are optimistic about landing the teenager this summer.

“PSG is entering into next week with big confidence for João Neves, PSG really feels João Neves will join them and is extremely optimistic,” Romano said. “Negotiations ongoing between clubs, looks like a matter of time for PSG to get the deal done for João Neves.”

Additionally, Benfica president Rui Costa confirmed that PSG has sent an official proposal for Neves after the player and club agreed on personal terms.

“There’s a proposal for João, yes,” Costa said. “We are discussing the amount. I never said that João would leave only for €120 million.”

Neves played 55 matches last season across all competitions for Benfica. The 19-year-old scored three goals and recorded two assists, which earned him a spot in Portugal’s UEFA Euro 2024 squad this summer.
