Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte to bolster their midfield. However, the Red Devils are keeping their options open and considering other targets if the price for the Uruguayan proves to be too high.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Manchester United have agreed to personal terms with Ugarte. Nonetheless, the issue regarding a transfer fee remains as both teams value the player differently.
A recent report from L’Equipe claims that the Parisians could be asking for €70 million for Ugarte. As a result, the Red Devils could be looking at another player to improve the midfield for next season.
According to FootballTransfers (h/t The Evening Standard), Manchester United are considering Sporting CP’s Danish international midfielder Morten Hjulmand, who recently scored a spectacular goal against England at Euro 2024. This comes as the club hesitates to meet the asking price for Ugarte.
In his column for CaughtOffside, Romano shared updates on this situation, stating that discussions between the two parties are still in progress.
“For Ugarte, they remain in conversations with Paris Saint-Germain while they have an agreement with the player,” Romano noted. “I’m hearing there are contacts ongoing between Man United and PSG since June, not official bids accepted or rejected – it’s a constant dialogue between the clubs.”
