Manchester United are eyeing Manuel Ugarte to strengthen their midfield this summer, but the Red Devils aren’t putting all their chips on the table to secure the Uruguayan.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported this week that PSG are open to loaning out Ugarte with a mandatory purchase clause. Ideally, they prefer a permanent transfer or a loan deal that includes an obligation to buy.
Ugarte has already agreed to personal terms with Manchester United and is now waiting for the two clubs to finalize the agreement. However, the issue is that the Premier League side have yet to find common ground on a transfer fee.
As a result, the English are reportedly considering alternative midfielders should PSG’s asking price be too high. CaughtOffside reports, citing sources, that Manchester United are interested in PSV Eindhoven’s 25-year-old midfielder, Joey Veerman.
Manager Erik ten Hag is focusing on building a core of Dutch players at United, backed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s funding. Considering this strategy, a move for Veerman seems like a sensible alternative to Ugarte.
The Red Devils have also reportedly shown interest in Sporting CP’s Danish midfielder Morten Hjulmand, who recently dazzled with a stunning goal against England at Euro 2024. Nonetheless, there are other options should the Ugarte file fall through.
Joey veerman is equally good. However, players need to be sold to get him. Nevertheless, if Ugarte could be gotten on loan in addition to veerman, it would be good business.
