On Thursday, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that Manchester United and Manuel Ugarte have reached an agreement on personal terms, taking the first steps towards his move to Old Trafford. However, could the Premier League club be keeping a Plan B in reserve?
Romano also noted that contract details were discussed, and Ugarte is keen to join Manchester United despite the lack of UEFA Champions League football. Nonetheless, the hurdle that the Red Devils face is the potential transfer fee.
On Friday, journalist Ben Jacobs reported that PSG are firm on its valuation of Ugarte and is in no hurry to sell him. Moreover, L’Equipe reports that the capital club are asking for €70 million for Ugarte, even though the Uruguayan has already agreed to terms with Manchester United.
As a result, this asking price could cause the English side to look at alternatives. The Telegraph’s James Ducker reports that talks over Ugarte appear the most advanced at this stage, but there is some interest in the Real Sociedad defensive midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

It will be interesting to see if PSG stand by its asking price even after it secures Joao Neves and needs to offload a midfielder to make room in the squad and balance the financial books.
