Nico Williams of Athletic Club has been in the spotlight recently, especially after his impressive performance at UEFA Euro 2024, where he played a key role in Spain’s win of the trophy. On top of that, one of his Spanish national team teammates at Barcelona is hoping he’ll join him at the Catalan club.
A report last month from CaughtOffside highlighted that Williams has become a target for several top clubs. Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, Barcelona, and Paris Saint-Germain are among those showing interest.
Moreover, The Athletic’s Mario Cortegana reported that the Parisians have already started reaching out to explore the possibility of making a deal. The Barcelona midfielder recently stated his desire for Williams to join the Spanish giants this summer.
“I don’t have the answer to that question,” Pedri said (h/t Le10Sport). “What is clear is that it would be a great signing for Barça. The Euro has shown what he is capable of.”
Barcelona lacks liquidity at the moment, so it is looking for ways to raise €58 million to pay the release clause. Cadena SER reported that Barcelona might seek another loan to pay the forward’s release clause.
