Nico Williams of Athletic Club has attracted attention from several top European clubs, particularly following his impressive performances at UEFA Euro 2024.

According to a recent report from CaughtOffside, Williams has drawn interest from several top clubs, including Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, Barcelona, and PSG.

Cadena SER journalist Jordi Marti spoke about the hurdle Barcelona face in sealing a transfer for Williams this summer. The 21-year-old winger could be tempted by greater offers from other clubs.

“The problem for Barça in signing Nico or Olmo is the salary,” Marti said (h/t Le10Sport). “With which salaries can they compete? With those of the Premier League? With those of PSG? That’s the big dilemma. For them to arrive, they must do a lot of things on their part because it must not be forgotten that today, Barça is not in normal conditions to register players.”

A report from SPORT notes that Barcelona have an agreement with Williams over personal terms and the club must now activate his €58 million release clause. Furthermore, Athletic Club have no desire to negotiate with the Catalan side over the player.

Moreover, Barcelona club president Joan Laporta spoke about the possibility of landing Williams this summer and made positive remarks, which gives his supporters hope that they can win the race to land the winger.

“I like Nico, a lot,” Laporta told Catalunya Radio. “I can say that financially, we can make it happen. It’s the result of work that has been done over all these years to reach this point. We could, of course, face a signing of this level.”
