Barcelona Eye Alternative Player if Summer Pursuit for PSG and Tottenham Target Falls Through

FC Barcelona are one of the clubs interested in Athletic Club’s Nico Williams. Moreover, his standout performance at UEFA Euro 2024 has probably increased the interest in the 21-year-old even more.

A recent report from CaughtOffside reveals that Williams is on the radar of several major clubs, including Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, Barcelona, and PSG.

However, Barcelona might plot to pursue Plan B, considering they have a challenging hurdle to secure the winger from Athletic Club. El Chiringuito reports that if the Catalan side cannot secure Williams this summer, they’ll pursue Club Toluca and Uruguyan standout Maximiliano Araújo.

A recent report from SPORT reveals that Athletic Club are unwilling to negotiate with the Catalan team and is referring to the termination clause. Recently, there has been talk that Barça wanted to pay the total amount in several installments, something that Bilbao will not accept either.

Williams’ release clause is €58 million, and to secure the Spanish winger, Barcelona also need to offer him a substantial wage package, so it’s a challenging position for them financially.
