PSG Kept Barcelona on Edge with Consideration to Pay Release Clause for Young Defender

Paris Saint-Germain are looking to bolster their defense this summer and they nearly went after an FC Barcelona player for a second straight year. Last year, the Parisians secured Ousmane Dembélé and in the past there’s Xavi Simons and Neymar Jr.

With the injuries to Lucas Hernandez and Presnel Kimpembe, along with the subpar performance from Milan Skriniar, the French giants are reportedly in the market for a center-back.

Moreover, with the rumored targets they’re keen on, PSG want a young player with high upside. However, there was a possibility that the capital club nearly landed another player to add to the list that PSG have nabbed from the Catalan side.

Mundo Deportivo reports the reigning Ligue 1 champions had their eyes on Pau Cubarsí. According to the Spanish media outlet, PSG were interested in Cubarsí as they considered paying his release clause when it was set at €10 million.

The 17-year-old made 35 appearances this past season for Barcelona, registering one assist for the Catalan side.
