There’s no question that Paris Saint-Germain needs to strengthen its squad this summer. Not only is Kylian Mbappé leaving for Real Madrid, but Manuel Ugarte could be leaving as well, and Lucas Hernández will miss significant time due to his knee injury.
AS Monaco could be a source of players to fill several holes in the PSG squad. While the principality is mostly known for its casinos, they also have produced talented players such as Thierry Henry, Yaya Toure, Bernardo Silva, and Mbappé. Luis Campos, PSG’s sporting director, is likely looking at Adi Hütter’s squad and identifying players who could be available this summer.
Wilfried Singo
The Ivory Coast international is one of my favorite players on the Monaco squad, and he fills a need for PSG at right-back. We don’t know what the future holds for Achraf Hakimi, who is under contract for two more seasons but may want to leave to join Real Madrid, where he played for the youth team and where his good friend Mbappé will be. If Hakimi leaves, PSG will need a player to step in without too much of a drop-off in quality. Singo played extremely well against PSG last season, and at 23 years old, he’s entering his prime.
Youssouf Fofana
Several top clubs covet the 25-year-old midfielder, but PSG should absolutely express interest. Fofana is not only from the Paris region, but he would also add physicality and quality to a midfield loaded with technical ability. Fofana’s contract expires in 2025, so Monaco would likely be open to negotiations now to avoid losing the France international for free.
Maghnes Akliouche
The unknown future of Xavi Simons is what leads me to recommend PSG signing Akliouche. The 22-year-old is an attacking midfielder who like Singo, impressed when he played against PSG. He has loads of potential, and if he were to come to PSG and develop like Warren Zaïre-Emery and Vitinha, PSG could have one of the best young midfields in all of Europe.
Folarin Balogun
PSG will be in desperate need for goals without Mbappé in the squad. Balogun scored 21 goals in 37 Ligue 1 appearances while on loan at Stade Reims in the 2022-23 season and could provide competition for Gonçalo Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani for a spot in the starting lineup for PSG. Not only is Balogun’s goal output impressive, but the United States international would attract more American viewers to Ligue 1, which could help elevate the league as well.
It’s unlikely PSG will sign all four of these players, but as the club looks to a new era with the departure of one former Monaco star, they may want to bring in another Monaco player with star potential.
