Athletic Club’s Nico Williams has garnered significant interest from top European clubs due to his impressive performance during the 2023-24 season, prompting several suitors to inquire about the 21-year-old player.
CaughtOffside recently reported that Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, Barcelona, and PSG are interested in Williams. Moreover, one player for the Catalan side hopes they can win the race to land the winger.
Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal has starred on the other wing along with Williams and, in an interview with SPORT (h/t Diario AS), noted that he hopes his teammate on the Spanish national team joins him at the club level.
“Hopefully Nico Williams can come to Barça,” Yamal said.
Football España has recently highlighted a strong internal drive within Barcelona to secure the signing of Williams despite the considerable financial hurdles involved. Williams has a release clause set at €58 million, and bringing the Spanish winger on board would also require a substantial wage package.
Securing Williams is expected to be a complex and costly endeavor, which has led to uncertainty among certain parties. In the past season, Williams featured in 37 matches across all competitions, scoring nine goals and registering 19 assists.
