PSG Star Signals Olympic Ambition Amidst Real Madrid Summer Transfer Move

Last Friday, Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé announced that he’d leave the club after this season. His contract expires next month, and the 25-year-old is heading to Real Madrid. One of the questions ahead of his arrival is the Summer Olympics.

Real Madrid will not be releasing any of its players for the summer games, which includes the Frenchman. However, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner commented on the situation and hinted at his desire to play, but understood that if it’s not possible to do so.

“Everything that has to do with winning makes me happy,” Mbappé said (h/t Le10Sport). “I think everyone knows the situation. It doesn’t depend on me. I think you have to think as an adult and take the right solution for all parties. I will be very happy to play them. Of course, it would be a waking dream.

“But if I don’t play them… The Paris Olympic Games remain the Paris Olympic Games. It’s such an important event that it goes beyond my presence.”

Mbappé will not have the UEFA Champions League to bolster his Ballon d’Or candidacy, so he will need to win UEFA Euro 2024. As a result, an Olympic gold medal would’ve boosted his chances, along with winning Ligue 1, to secure the honor later this year.

If Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior win the Champions League along with their respective continental tournament this summer, then the soon-to-be former PSG star could miss out on this Ballon d’Or.
