Paris Saint-Germain missed out on reaching the final of the UEFA Champions League when they fell 2-0 on aggregate to Borussia Dortmund in the semi-finals. However, PSG executives may want to keep an eye on another final to discover players who can strengthen the squad for next season.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Luis Campos will surely know how to buy UEFA Europa League Final tickets and they’ll be scouting several players to target in the upcoming summer transfer window. It’s reported that PSG will sign players in every position and there is immense quality playing in the Europa League final.
Let’s start with Bayer Leverkusen, who have had an incredible season that has already seen them win the Bundesliga. Florian Wirtz is probably the best player at Leverkusen, and at 21 years old, he’s only going to continue developing. The attacking midfielder is under contract until 2027, so the transfer fee from PSG will have to be substantial, but with the departure of Kylian Mbappé, the funds will be there should PSG want to make a move.
Jeremie Frimpong is another Leverkusen player on a long-term contract, 2028, but could be looking to make a move after an impressive season. The 23-year-old has been at the German club since 2021, and can play pretty much any position on the right side of the pitch.
The last player at Leverkusen PSG may be interested in is Victor Boniface. PSG will need help scoring goals without Mbappé, and Boniface proved this season that he can do just that. The 23-year-old made 32 appearances in all competitions for Leverkusen, scoring 20 goals and recording 10 assists.
Over on the Atalanta side, PSG could strengthen its defense with Giorgio Scalvini. The 20-year-old Italian center-back would play in front of fellow Italian Gianluigi Donnarumma in goal and would add some much-needed defensive reinforcement. PSG recently saw Lucas Hernández go down with a serious knee injury, and it’s still unknown if Presnel Kimpembe will ever return to the first team after his achilles injury.
Lastly, PSG could explore a deal for Atalanta’s Éderson. The central midfielder would play alongside Warren Zaïre-Emery and Vitinha. From Neymar to Ronaldinho, PSG has a storied history with Brazilian players, and that might be appealing to Éderson, whose contract at the Italian club runs out in 2027.
It will be a busy summer for PSG as they look to fill multiple holes in its squad. The Europa League final is a great place to look for experienced talent that can come in and immediately contribute.
